Asked if they would sing a lullaby during an appearance at Monroe Elementary Schoolin Hinsdale, members of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, a South African musical group made famous when they performed on Paul Simon’s album “Graceland” politely declined.
“I don’t know if you want us to sing it — otherwise they’ll go to sleep,” said Thulani Shabalala, son of the group’s founder.
The appearance by four members of the nine-member group was a highlight of the year for the students who’ve been studying South Africa’s history, culture, economics and other aspects throughout the school year.
