SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK TO RECEIVE “KEEPER OF FLAME AWARD” AND PERFORM AT 51ST SIGNATURE GALA OF DELTA SIGMA THETASORORITY
CONVENTION IN WASH, DC, JULY 13, 2013
Grammy-Award nominated a cappella ensemble SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK will receive the prestigious KEEPER OF THE FLAME AWARD and also perform at the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s SIGNATURE GALA, which is one of the highlights
of their 51ST NATIONALCONVENTION, being held in Washington, DC, July 11th – 18th at the Washington Convention Center. This year marks the centennial celebration of the Sorority. The SIGNATURE GALA is set for the Verizon Center on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at 8 PM.
In addition to SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK’S abbreviated performance, the Signature Gala will alsofeature guest performances by Roberta Flack, Indie Arie, Patti LaBelle, and many other featured speakers and special guests.
A highlight of the Delta’s convention also includes the 40th Anniversary of their association with the Commission on Arts and Letters (CAL) and the Sorority’s commitment to promoting The Arts and positive African-American imagery in areas of visual, performing and literary arts. The Sorority salutes four decades of the phenomenal work and impact the Commission has had on African-Americans and how they are represented in film, television, on stage, and in the visual arts arena.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. A sisterhood of more than 200,000 predominately Black college educated women, the Sorority currently has over 900 chapters located in the United States, England, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas and the Republic of Korea.
