Names+Faces: Saxophonist Joshua Redman to be Detroit Jazz Festival’s artist-in-residence
By: Mark Stryker
The headliners for the 2014 Detroit Jazz Festival won’t be announced until mid-April, but the cat’s already out of the bag regarding this year’s artist-in-residence. It’s tenor saxophonist Joshua Redman, the 45-year-old former wunderkind who has been making his most rewarding music in recent years. Redman will be in Detroit April 16 to speak at the festival’s preview luncheon at the Detroit Athletic Club. The 35th-annual event — the largest free jazz festival in the world — will be held Aug. 29-Sept. 1 in downtown Detroit.
