No name, no problem as Jazz quartet gives near perfect performance

It was a quartet so new they don’t even have a name.

That didn’t stop the Winnipeg International Jazz Festival from giving bassist Dave Holland, saxophonist Chris Potter, guitarist Lionel Loueke and drummer Eric Harland a prime slot this week.

Their reputations as jazz artists preceded them. Holland, who has performed with the likes of Miles Davis and Chick Corea when he hasn’t fronted his own group, is named as the leader in the festival program, but it really was a band of equal parts. Together they created a musical synergy that had a jammed theatre at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre buzzing with anticipation.
