Sanborn clearly was the big draw of the weekend, and his set didn’t disappoint, beginning with the blues-based funk of Comin’ Home Baby. Tune after tune was fleshed out by Sanborn’s fine band, especially the fat funky sound of the Hammond B3 organ, which gave one early song the feel of the British blues. From the start, his songs contained sax solos that ran the stylistic gamut from bop to soul and back, but often ended with the horn man wailing erotically.
