Jazz greats John Scofield & Joe Lovano to play UCSD

Expect musical sparks to immediately fly when guitarist John Scofield and saxophonist Joe Lovano take the stage Wednesday night at UC San Diego’s Price Center East Ballroom.

The two jazz greats are performing her just nine days after Scofield won the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Jazz instrumental Album. The album in question, ‘Past Present,’ teams him with Lovano, his periodic recording partner since 1990, when they released their first album together, ‘Time On My Hands.’ (Their artistic relationship dates back to the early 1970s when both were enrolled at Boston’s Berklee College of Music ‘” Scofield graduated in 1973; Lovano in 1972.

In 2003, the two musicians recorded the memorable album, ‘Scolohofo,’ which paired them with former Miles Davis band members Dave Holland on bass and Al Foster on drums.
