(From Nonesuch) As revelers “laissez les bons temps roulez” for Mardi Gras and samba through the streets of Rio for Carnival, Nonesuch marks the occasion by introducing Brazilian legend Caetano Veloso’s 41st album, Zii e Zie, now available for pre-order in the Nonesuch Store . The record, released last year in South America and Europe, has already earned Veloso a 2009 Latin Grammy for Best Singer-Songwriter Album.

The Times of London’s Clive Davis recently declared, ‘The Brazilian master remains in a league of his own,’ and gave the new album four stars. The Guardian gives the album four stars as well, with reviewer Robin Denselow calling the songs “intimate and surprising, with sudden bursts of electric guitar transforming the easy-going ‘Falso Leblon,’ and handclaps and funk guitar lines matched against the laid-back vocals on ‘A Cor Amarela.’ Best of all, there’s the half-spoken ‘A Base de Guantánamo,’ which sounds like a classic and angry protest song even if you can’t speak Portuguese.’

Veloso returns to the United States in April for six performances, with dates in New York City, Washington, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Miami.
