The Cuban singer Omara Portuondo, 79, is still impulsive onstage. At Town Hall on Saturday night, she interrupted her planned set a few times to launch into a song unaccompanied. One, responding to audience requests, was “Amigas,” which she had sung half a century ago when she had hits in Cuba as a member of the four-woman vocal group Cuarteto d’Aida. Now she jumped among all the parts, simultaneously looking back and flaunting what she can do. She sang high and low, whispering and declaiming, hinting at tears and pride: “Sing what is life itself, what is our joy, our truth.”
