Fresh off his 2017 Grammy Awards, jazz great John Scofield will be featured Saturday as part of the 2017 Orchard Guitar Festival, a free show, at Bowling Green State University.
Scofield’s debut recording with Chet Baker and Gerry Mulligan set him on a stellar musical trajectory that has included tours and recordings with Miles Davis and Charles Mingus. However, he didn’t sit on his early successes. He’s also collaborated with contemporary stars, such as Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Mavis Staples, Phil Lesh, Government Mule and Charlie Haden.
Known as one of the great improvising masters of jazz, Scofield’s music has incorporated post-bop, funk-edged jazz and R&B, creating a melange that is distinctly his own.

Scofield’s album “Country For Old Men” won the 2017 Grammy Awards for Best Instrumental Jazz Album and Best Improvised Jazz Solo for “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry,” off the same album. Riding high off those wins, he is now touring as part of the jazz super group Hudson in support of its self-titled album released in June.
