Ladysmith Black Mambazo Courts a New Generation of Listeners
By: The Takeaway

The South African group Ladysmith Black Mambazo has been around for generations. The group was formed in 1960 by Joseph Shabalala, who had a desire to preserve the traditional music which came out of the South African mines where black workers took to song as they rode the trains to work far from home.

At the Grammy Awards later this month, they are nominated for two albums: “Shaka Zulu Revisited,” and a children’s album: ‘Songs of Peace & Love for Kids and Parents Around the World,’ which introduces the group and their decades long mission to a new generation of listeners.
