Sax titan Joe Lovano books 5 combos in 4 nights at SFJazz

If you think of the SFJazz Center as an ecosystem designed to nurture various species of jazz artists, it’s not hard to see why Joe Lovano has thrived in the amenable setting. In his first run as an SFJazz resident artistic director, or RAD, the tenor sax titan presents five different ensembles over the course of four nights, from a talent-packed New York nonet playing his arrangements of bebop themes (March 14) to a protean duo with Cuban piano maestro and fellow RAD Chucho Vald├ęs (March 16). He closes the run March 17 with Tenor Summit, a conclave with saxophone scions Joshua Redman and Ravi Coltrane.
